forthcoming in 2026: tears/tears [tɪrs/ters]

an excerpt:

“When I tell people I’m going “home” for a visit, they usually ask if I’m visiting family. I know what they mean. They mean my family of origin, the people I come from—parents, siblings. Answering with “Ontario” feels less likely to evoke my own emotionally-charged reaction. It depends on who I’m speaking to and how strong I feel that day, or how close the tears feel to my eyes. “Ontario” feels easier for me to say than “home.”
